Our Story.

Raise Black Voices was started because this moment underscores that mainstream American culture, and the leaders in our boardrooms, newsrooms and classrooms, too often do not understand the Black experience. It is my belief that, without that understanding, this moment of social upheaval will be incomplete – the status quo not fully changed.

Raise Black Voices is an editorial program and a megaphone. We curate the stories of journalists, academics, and content creators focused on the Black experience – stories not often seen in mainstream communities – into a weekly newsletter. We then recruit community and business leaders – those with followership and intention – to read and amplify those stories through their social media and conversations, thereby serving as validators and communicators of content focused on Black lives.

This is an experiment and an act of hope, one that will only work if people participate.

  • We will curate the stories (see our editorial policies here).

  • You can sign up for our newsletter to receive stories and content.

  • If you want to be one of the community and business leaders who commit to sharing this content, email us.

  • If you want to suggest that someone in your network become one of these amplifiers, send them an email through our site here.

I hope this effort serves as a resource and a catalyst. I hope you join us to #RaiseBlackVoices as a necessary step toward breaking down barriers and achieving a more just, equal and inclusive country and world.

Thank you for engaging,

Marissa Matusiak
